Blood Mana
The Blood Mana curse may be cast only on a player who's maximum mana is higher than maximum life. Mana consumed by a player under the curse leeches life from the player's red ball. A Succubus' Blood Mana curse will not overwrite another curse, and since shrine halos (experience, mana regen, etc.) count as curses, they offer protection from Blood Mana. (The same is true for their Defense Reduction curse.) Defense Reduction
The Defense Reduction curse sticks only on players whose maximum life exceeds maximum mana (which, given the relative ease of obtaining a supply of mana, is true of most builds). In effect, if a Succubus or Baal can't cast Blood Mana on a player, they cast the Defense Reduction curse. As the name implies it has the effect of dramatically reducing the player's defense. It is generally a mere nuisance. But if your character is vulnerable to Blood Mana and has a minion (Decoy, hireling, etc.), you can try to get the cursing monster (Succubus or Baal) to cast on the minion, since the curse will be Defense Reduction, not Blood Mana. If your character is caught by the curse, it won't thereafter get overwritten by Blood Mana. |
