Basin Support 2010

Our happy ad-free home here on the internet is supported entirely by donations from within our community.

TPJ has posted about the current need for donations here.

If you can help out, please do. Our last fundraising drive kept the servers running for 14 months, but that run has ended.

A Sea Change

Starting today, Seawolfe is stepping down as an admin. Real life has a funny way of getting in the way of thwapping rabbits. ^_^ She will be sorely missed.

Fortunately, we were able to cast mind blast on Chiller-Babe, and she will become an admin. Many thanks for stepping up, Chiller-Babe! :)

Can you say "subforum"? I knew you could!!!

At some point within the next few days, the Basin's D2 forums will be undergoing a bit of reorganization to help make the boards feel a little less cluttered. Virtually all of the reorganization at this point is purely cosmetic. This process does not inclue the elimination of any forums, threads, posts, or information. What we are doing is moving a few things around a bit. Putting some of the less-used discussions on the back shelves, so-to-speak. While nothing is being eliminated, the front page of the boards will be dropping from 24 listed forums down to 18.

I do realize that some people may feel uncomfortable with the new way things will be distributed, but I hope it won't be anything too hard to get used to, and I believe many people feel it as something long overdue. It's just a little bit of tidying up, is all. :)

A couple of quick notes: This re-organization has nothing to do with neither the new forum upgrade, nor the skins. It is specifically to address the issue of the boards being a little sloppy. The forum upgrade is still slated for July 26th. (Don't forget to prune your PMs in anticipation of the new 500 PM limit!)

Here is a cheesy spreadsheet I created for everyone to look at before the shuffle actually happens. (Any numbers you may see in parentheses indicate the level of activity for any given forum over the past 3 years.):
New forum layout. (Sorry...temporary free file-sharing wesbsite link until I find a better place to put it...)

PM Consolidation to 500 by 7/25/9

We are doing a board conversion 7/26/9. One result of that change is the limit on the number of pm's that can be stored. The present limit is 1,500. The new limit will be 500. Please start now to reduce the number of saved and sent pm's you may have. We need to have this done before the conversion, so it can go through. Delete those pm's that aren't needed. Remember, you can use the archive function to save pm's as well.

Please post any questions you may have. Thanks for your cooperation!

Grimborn hands D2 keys to spear of light

The time has finally come for Grimborns iron-fisted rule of The Basin's D2 guild to come to an end. For over 3 years the masses have trembled in their greaves at the mere mention of his name. His realm underlings still bear horribly disfiguring scars from the weekly beatings they were forced to endure. The collective guild will surely emerge from their dark and tattered quarters to once again breathe in the warm and wonderful air they've spent the last few years trying to remember.

Your bonus check is being sent this afternoon, Grim. Well done.

Filling the role of 'Teep's D2 Vassal' is spear of light. Spear has been a part of The Basin's D2 guild for the last 5+ years and has proven himself worthy of carrying the load around here. Grimborn and his crew have all given him a thumbs-up and are ready to start making him "do everything."

Along with the head-honcho spot change, I'm pleased to announce that both Blip and DPTR have accepted admin positions within the D2 guild as well. Unlike the spear of light change, no one really voted for either one of these two, but since no one else filled out applications for the open positions, we had no choice but to take them. I repeatedly asked for alternates, but was told "sorry, that's all we got". Whatever.

Support your friendly, neighborhood Basin

Because we don't run site advertising, keeping the Basin going financially depends on the generosity of the people here. And when TPJ sees the cash barrel getting low, we pass the hat.

Please give if you can.

Seven Years!

August 11, 2000 is what we consider our founding date...the date the first online presence was created for the Amazon Basin.

Read about the Basin's early days on our History page, and see some names from the ancient days of yore.

Seven years, huh? Who'd a thunk it? :D

The Basin currently operates five full-fledged Game Guilds and has smaller (but active!) presences in numerous other games.

Diablo II was our first game, and the mother guild is still running, seven years later! That's longevity in the online world.

Future game guilds are almost always under consideration. We have occasional real-life meetings too, in which lies are told, music is performed, and general game-geek boasting and mayhem prevail. And maybe a little bit of partying occurs. ;)

What holds it all together? The vision of our founder, TPJ -- that somewhere out there were people who still yearned to play games without cheating, without rudeness, and still have fun? The behind-the-scenes efforts of our many volunteers? The shared web presence that forms a community, both of conversation and gaming? Or is it our philosophy of playing well together in a friendly environment?

Form your own opinion. If you're new here, poke around, read, say hi -- see if you like us! If you've been here a long time, I have a different message for you: Thank you! You're the reason it's worked so well for so long.

Have fun out there!

Sailboat

A change in admins

Two of our longest serving admins -- imbtf and MsKitty -- are stepping down. They claim they'd like to have a bit of time for non-D2 issues, but personally I suspect they want to take an all-out run at the new ladder. :P

SSoG and Seawolfe are new admins, as of today. So go easy on 'em. (At least for a day or so.)
