Support your friendly, neighborhood Basin
Because we don't run site advertising, keeping the Basin going financially depends on the generosity of the people here. And when TPJ sees the cash barrel getting low, we pass the hat.
Please give if you can. Comments: 0 ::

Seven Years!
August 11, 2000 is what we consider our founding date...the date the first online presence was created for the Amazon Basin.
Read about the Basin's early days on our History page, and see some names from the ancient days of yore.
Seven years, huh? Who'd a thunk it?
The Basin currently operates five full-fledged Game Guilds and has smaller (but active!) presences in numerous other games.
Diablo II was our first game, and the mother guild is still running, seven years later! That's longevity in the online world.
Future game guilds are almost always under consideration. We have occasional real-life meetings too, in which lies are told, music is performed, and general game-geek boasting and mayhem prevail. And maybe a little bit of partying occurs.
What holds it all together? The vision of our founder, TPJ -- that somewhere out there were people who still yearned to play games without cheating, without rudeness, and still have fun? The behind-the-scenes efforts of our many volunteers? The shared web presence that forms a community, both of conversation and gaming? Or is it our philosophy of playing well together in a friendly environment?
Form your own opinion. If you're new here, poke around, read, say hi -- see if you like us! If you've been here a long time, I have a different message for you: Thank you! You're the reason it's worked so well for so long.
Have fun out there!

A change in admins
Two of our longest serving admins -- imbtf and MsKitty -- are stepping down. They claim they'd like to have a bit of time for non-D2 issues, but personally I suspect they want to take an all-out run at the new ladder.
SSoG and Seawolfe are new admins, as of today. So go easy on 'em. (At least for a day or so.) Comments: 11 ::

Our channel to meet in has changed to Op TheAmazon-Basin
Effective immediately, we are no longer meeting in channel op theamazonbasin for the East and Europe realms. The accounts for two of the realms expired, and someone with less than good intentions has taken those accounts.
Therefore, we will meet in channel op TheAmazon-Basin.
You might want to do a /whois optheamazonbasin occasionally, and whisper your buddies or those in channel where the new hangout is. The channel will still have the same cool people, just a slightly different address. What's a dash between friends? Comments: 16 ::

A friend in need is a friend indeed
As posted by TPJ on the main boards.
QUOTE (TPJ @ December 21, 2006 - 3:24 pm) In what amounts to a ‘worse timing ever’ award, we’ve got an Amazon Basin guild admin being forced to make life-altering changes to her family just days before Christmas. D2 guild admin Cadsuane (Tina) is currently wading through the turbulent waters of an extremely unfortunate and ugly divorce, leaving her without the former breadwinner for her and her children. Her hands were forced in this matter and she is doing the only thing she can to ensure the safety of her family. Many of you who are aware of the grievous nature of this situation have already offered to help. To make things easier, I’m offering to manage the effort on behalf of The Basin. I know that the holidays aren’t always the easiest on everyone’s bank accounts, but if you could perhaps spare a little extra to ensure one of our own can continue to provide for herself and her kids, I’m sure old lady karma will be in your corner when you find yourself in need. Those of you who know Tina realize she’s someone we’re better off having around. Her generous nature and positive attitude exemplify what this place stands for. She needs a bit of help right now. If you are able to help, please do so by visiting our normal donation pages – either the Main Donation Page where the PayPal link can be used, or via the BasinWear ‘Just For Fun’ page. For the next couple of weeks, all donations made via these methods will be set aside for Tina. Thank you, Basin. Comments: 5 ::

Happy Anniversary, Amazon Basin!
The Basin is six years old this weekend. Happy birthday to us!
Formally established August 11, 2000, as a place for fair-minded and friendly people to talk about the Diablo II Amazon class, tha Basin soon found that fair-minded and friendly people have a lot of other things to talk about, and we're still talking!
Although we had a little forum glitch that kept us from posting this on the 11th, we're back up now. And we're in other games besides Diablo II. The Diablo II guild is still the busiest by numbers -- amazing, eh? -- but we have a new guild a-borning and our community teems with people interested in all kinds of games on the horizon.
So pat yourselves on the back, wave to our founder, TPJ, and go forth and play well with others!

Amazon Basin Fund Drive
As posted by TPJ on the main boards:
QUOTE (TPJ @ March 2, 2006 - 10:46 pm) As most of you know, The Amazon Basin is an advertisement-free community. We maintain this status by relying on donations from the folks who call this place home – people like you. It’s been a while since I’ve needed to ask for help, but we’re to that point again. The cost of keeping this place up is close to $200 a month, and as such, it’s easy to go through the generous donations I receive. If you feel compelled to help (you do feel compelled, don’t you?) the easiest way is to visit The Basin’s donation page. You’ll see a link to the Basin’s PayPal account allowing you to donate any amount you wish. Another easy way is to purchase 1337 ITAMZ from our BasinWear™ store. Hats, mugs, polos, and really cool t-shirts – all with The Amazon Basin logo. Wear them to middle school! Impress your friends, and get beat up by the football players. If you’re not in the mood for an outright donation, please just continue to purchase your books, games, CDs, and housewares using our Amazon.com Associate Program link. A percentage of everything you buy after following that link to Amazon.com will end up in our bank account on a quarterly basis. It really does help. Before I leave you, I’d like to publicly thank a certain ‘unknown’ Basin person who has continued to donate large amounts of money on a somewhat continual basis. I don’t know who they are, but their generosity is unmatched around here. No one else has donated NEAR as much as this person has over the years. /bow
If you can and want to help, please do. If you can't, don't feel bad about it Comments: 5 ::
