Laughing God exits the Hellgate Posted by Laughing God on Apr. 26th, 2008 - 8:34 AM |
The time has come for me to step down as HGL admin. The past 2,5 years have been a fun ride, I have learned many things and I would not have it undone. Alas, I feel other games and activities pulling at my attention, and I have not been playing HGL much in the recent months. Thus I thought it might be best to step down, and stop feeling guilty for not being as active here as I should.
I thank everyone for the great times I´ve had, and for fun experiences ingame, hopefully we can meet up in another game at a later date. I also extend my warm thanks to TPJ and Jug who have shown nerves of steel and solid resolve in putting up with my antics all this time

TPJ appointed as Hellgate London Guild Advocate! Posted by Jugalator on Feb. 17th, 2008 - 1:37 AM |
Our very own TPJ was recently appointed to a Guild Advocate position as part of Flagship Studios' Team Advocate Program! (link requires a Hellgate London forum login)
These people are supposed to help out with the collection and forwarding of community concerns and ideas to Flagship Studios to ensure a good signal-to-noise ratio, a kind of channel of communication between Flagship Studios and us. Hopefully this can help spare them the time digging through their official boards that granted can be tiresome to find the quality bits, and also involves risks in missing valuable opinions. As a guild advocate, TPJ will be particularly involved in the topics of Hellgate London guilds -- what we as a community want to see of them, or which ideas may not be working well in for example upcoming patches in testing. The channel of communication is a two-way street, and he may also help out with forwarding information from Flagship Studios to us.
Since TPJ has a mature and deep experience from running a large international community such as The Amazon Basin all the way back since the dark ages of year 2000 when we were all relieved the Earth didn't blow up from an onslaught of Y2K bugs, I think they'll soon enough see he was a good pick! The Basin will start day 1 with both EU and US guilds Posted by TPJ on Oct. 18th, 2007 - 6:01 PM |
The Amazon Basin's Hellgate:London guild will support in-game guilds on both the United States servers and European servers at launch. The US guild will have yours truly at the helm while the EU guild will have Jugalator and Laughing God running the show. Both guilds will have extremely similar management structures and hierarchies and will use the current Basin HGL forums. We envision there being a few additional/separate forums here for group planning and etc., but everything else you see now will likely remain.
As most of you already know, Flagship Studios have announced that users will be able to play on either the US or EU servers, regardless of where their initial account is created. However, it hasn't been stated whether this freedom includes all the bonuses associated with subscriber accounts. (unless, of course, you pay for 2 subscriber accounts) For the time being, it is presumed your primary (paid) account will reside on one server (either EU or US) and you will be able to play the 'free' version on the other server any time you wish. This will greatly help grouping, but I understand many of you are still holding out hope for cross-server movement with your paid accounts. I'm in the same boat and have my fingers crossed as well.
Those of you in Asia have your own servers, unfortunately. Unless there comes a time where The Basin exhibits enough folks on the Asian server to warrant their own Basin guild, there will not be an 'official' in-game Basin guild there. Of course, those of you in Asia can still group in-game and use The Basin's forums to plan group games and talk tech with everyone else.
Laughing God, Jugalator, and I understand the nature of the game, with its numerous gameplay options, will spawn individual groups of people wishing to play the game 'their own way'. We plan to fully support each and every gameplay option just as our D2 guild has. We're hoping to see groups of people playing hardcore nightmare mode, challenge mode, no twink softcore, as well as groups dedicated to certain builds like Alexandra's tank engineer, my drone-less engineer, and the AOE carnagor summoner. We're striving to find ways to include anyone and everyone in this guild.
In taking queues from our D2 guild, our current testers have been working very hard on making sure build guides and play guides are up soon after the NDA has been lifted. We know the main selling point early in The Amazon Basin's history was our D2 guides page. It is our hope that similar recognition will be given to the guides produced by our HGL guild.
With the release of the single player demo this Friday and the end of the NDA surely following, I want everyone here to be ready for a lot of fun and a lot of visitors new to The Amazon Basin. Please, make sure you treat everyone with respect, regardless of how long they've been here, which server the play on, whether they are paying subscribers or not, and whether they play HC or SC.
Thanks y'all. Comments: 37 ::

HGL MP FAQ Posted by TPJ on Sep. 27th, 2007 - 12:57 AM |
|
Acronyms aside, Flagship Studios have finally released more information on how multiplayer accounts will be handled. Specifically, how accounts from one country will interact with accounts from another country. It's not the 'GoodNews™' we were waiting for, but it's not bad. Besides, there are a couple of things still yet to be clarified that they're working on. *crosses fingers* Comments: 2 ::

Closed Alpha testing has begun - by us!! Posted by TPJ on Aug. 10th, 2007 - 4:41 PM |
After receiving clarification from Flagship Studios on this, I can now announce that not only has the closed Alpha testing for HGL started, but we've got a great group of people from The Basin helping to get the game fixed up and ready for release. Unfortunately, I can't tell you how the testing is going or what we're seeing. *bah* But I am happy to mention that our testers include Laughing God, Jugalator, Talissa, Naga The Serpent, Nightchrome, ForeStorm, Angelic Faces, Neutron Star, Alberic, MageOfTheSands, Abielikesu, Mother_of_Demons, SirBunnz, TheSlaveOne, and Koalachan. Oh, and me. Not a bad group, huh?
Please, don't ask us about the testing yet. We're not allowed to say anything other than 'we're testing'.
Still, cool news, huh? Comments: 55 ::

Thoughts on the first Hellgate:London Community Day Posted by TPJ on May. 18th, 2007 - 12:44 AM |
Flagship Studios' first ever Hellgate:London Community Day has come and gone, and Laughing God and I are now enjoying the comfort of seats that don't require 'full and upright position'. Yeah, it's nice to be home again - much more so for LG since he flew to San Francisco all the way from Sweden. 14 hours on a plane? No thanks.
The Shippers (and the EA reps) treated us like kings during our stay. They were always there to pick up the tab, buy a beer (or 30), talk tech, and just hang out with us. No one at FSS minded us poking our heads in and asking what they were working on. They all turned around in their seats and spoke at length to us about anything and everything. Well, everything except testing starts dates. Tight-lipped bastards.
Until I have the time to transcribe tons of interview material, your best bet for Community Day info is over on Hellgate Guru. The HGG guys were outstanding comrades during our visit, especially Sol Invictus. He and I probably put 10 miles on our shoes in San Francisco. We hung out all day Wednesday just getting to know each other and talking about the game and our respective communities.
Don't miss out on Pyke's Marksman Q&A thread, their overall Q&A Gameplay thread (which I've been trying to participate in as well), and Temet's Evoker thread. Quite a bit of good questions in there and lots of first hand feedback to soak in. If you'd rather not leave the comfort of The Basin, you can ask gameplay questions in our own version of a Q&A thread.
As I mentioned, I have lots of transcribing to do, followed by a writeup or two detailing our stay and my thoughts of HGL. Keep an eye open for them in the next day or so. Comments: 3 ::

Win a trip to Flagship Studios in San Francisco Posted by TPJ on May. 3rd, 2007 - 11:02 PM |
How would you like to take part in the first ever Hellgate:London Community Day? Free of charge? At the Flagship Studios offices in downtown San Francisco? Yeah, of course you would! Allowing The Basin to offer our community just such chance is a contest spearheaded by Flagship Studios and offered by this community and other online HGG fansites around the globe.
All you have to do is write a simple 200 word quest and submit it to TPJ. Easy as pie, huh?
For complete details - including the writeup by Kaiser @ Flagship - read on, comrades. Read on. Comments: 31 ::

The first ever Basin Newsletter has arrived! Posted by TPJ on Jan. 23rd, 2007 - 11:14 PM |
After a quick discussion about starting a community newsletter, ABM Erinye decided to grab the reigns and don the ‘editor’ hat. She requested input from various game representatives here in the Basin to help her cover the bases and was able to produce our first ever Basin Community Newsletter! (pdf)
The debut issue contains little bits of news from each of our ‘official’ guilds as well as minor notes of general interest. It is my hope that future issues will be produced and distributed on a regular basis and help keep everyone up to date on what goes on in this great place we spend so much time in.
My thanks to Erinye and her staff for taking the lead in this project and seeing it through. Comments: 1 ::

A friend in need is a friend indeed Posted by TPJ on Dec. 21st, 2006 - 4:24 PM |
In what amounts to a ‘worse timing ever’ award, we’ve got an Amazon Basin guild admin being forced to make life-altering changes to her family just days before Christmas. D2 guild admin Cadsuane (Tina) is currently wading through the turbulent waters of an extremely unfortunate and ugly divorce, leaving her without the former breadwinner for her and her children. Her hands were forced in this matter and she is doing the only thing she can to ensure the safety of her family.
Many of you who are aware of the grievous nature of this situation have already offered to help. To make things easier, I’m offering to manage the effort on behalf of The Basin. I know that the holidays aren’t always the easiest on everyone’s bank accounts, but if you could perhaps spare a little extra to ensure one of our own can continue to provide for herself and her kids, I’m sure old lady karma will be in your corner when you find yourself in need.
Those of you who know Tina realize she’s someone we’re better off having around. Her generous nature and positive attitude exemplify what this place stands for. She needs a bit of help right now.
If you are able to help, please do so by visiting our normal donation pages – either the Main Donation Page where the PayPal link can be used, or via the BasinWear ‘Just For Fun’ page. For the next couple of weeks, all donations made via these methods will be set aside for Tina.
Thank you, Basin. Comments: 1 ::

Help us come up with 20 questions for FSS Posted by TPJ on Jul. 11th, 2006 - 12:30 PM |
We have the opportunity to pose 20 questions to the staff at Flagship Studios. If you prefer, you may request that your question be answered by anyone at FSS. There are no guarantees that you'll get your requested individual, but efforts will be made to accommodate legitimate requests. If your chosen person isn't available, someone will be chosen by Ivan to answer instead. (either that, or you get the Ivan show.....which is both confusing and arousing at the same time)
So, please use your collective grey matter to craft questions worthy of our community. None of this 'what was the hardest thing you encountered while making HGL?' crap, OK? We surely can do better than that. Comments: 11 ::

I'm very proud to announce that The Basin's Hellgate:London guild has been awarded Official Fansite status by Flagship Studios. We look forward to continuing our great relationship with Flagship Studios as they work towards building a great game. We've got a hard working, dedicated community here who would like nothing more than participating with Flagship in helping build a great initial title. Comments: 22 ::

Jugalator and Laughing God accept Officer roles Posted by TPJ on Apr. 4th, 2006 - 10:54 AM |
I'm very pleased to announce that both Jugalator and Laughing God have accepted the role of 'Guild Officer' for our HGL guild. They're both the type of people I like to drag kicking and screaming into management roles around here - clueless and wide-eyed intelligent and hard-working. However, they're both a bit wet behind the ears with regard to high paying jobs like this, so please don't be too hard on them! Comments: 43 ::

Welcome to The Basin's Hellgate:London guild! Posted by TPJ on Mar. 28th, 2006 - 1:47 AM |
Yes, kids - it's true! The Basin has a new guild - for Hellgate:London. C'mon, you knew it was coming, right?
We're optimistic that The Basin's HGL guild will forge a relationship similar to the one our Guild Wars folks built with ArenaNet. Give and take from both sides - each with a common goal of making HGL the best game it can be.
C'mon in, register for the forums, and post a quick 'hello', why don't ya? Comments: 79 ::
