Morend hits RR80
Posted by Zakrah on 30 August 2010 - 12:57 AM
Congrats to the Basin's favorite marauder Morend, who hit rr80 today :)

Along with making me grin every time he fires up that huge arm to pull in an unsuspecting Order, Moren has been huge in helping WAR Basin as guild officer and forum admin. Thanks much for all you do!

Basin Fund Drive
Posted by Zakrah on 20 July 2010 - 03:18 PM
From the fellow who started the Basin 10 years ago, TPJ :)
http://www.theamazon...showtopic=19144

TPJ, on 20 July 2010 - 09:53 AM, said:

It's been 14 months since The Amazon Basin's last fund drive. Since anything over a year's worth of funds is considered a pretty big success, I'd say you folks did a pretty damn good job last time. For that, I thank each and every one of you. You keep this place running. You keep it ad-free. You keep it open.

But, we are running out of cash. We have enough to pay our server payment on July 25th, but not enough for the August payment. I hate bugging people about this type of stuff, but it's the nature of how we run things here. We've always been ad-free. Most everyone agrees that they'd rather put in a few dollars here and there than have to plaster advertisements in our home. I feel that decision has been the right one as it's kept us apart from the masses of other sites out there. We're unique in that respect, and proudly so.

Penty of people aren't in any sort of financial shape to be sending off donations right now. I comlpetely understand that. If you're one of those folks, I'm not asking you for help. I'm asking the person next to you that can afford to help a little. If you can't, you can't. But if you can, please help us keep this place afloat by heading over to our donation page and using the PayPal link. If you don't have a PayPal account or are an anti-online payment person, my address is on the same page. You can definitely snail mail me a check or whatever. Either way, you'll be helping The Basin out.

As always, Amazon.com purchases though our Amazon.com Associate Program link will help as well. A percentage of everything you buy after following that link to Amazon.com will end up in our bank account on a quarterly basis. It really does help over the course of a year.

And again, I thank you folks for making this place what it is.

Scent dings rr80!
Posted by Zakrah on 05 June 2010 - 03:34 PM
The lovely and talented Scent dinged rr80 this morning, congrats!

We have had fun together for a long time, both on Skull Throne and Badlands servers, and now Scent is also our newest CM. We are lucky to have such a great player with us in guild. I doubt there is any other guild on Badlands with 2 rr80 healers who are as good players and people as Scent and Morel :)

I'm sorry I don't have a better picture, but here is Scent last Thursday in Basin wb for our rvr nite. He does look good with the Basin emblem on his back!

/cheer!!!

This morning in Basin scen group, the bestest git in the game dinged rr80. He's the one and only, but most importantly OUR OWN, Morrell :)

I am overwhelmed when I think about how much he as done for WAR Basin and how much enjoyment he has added to this game for so many of us... so I'll just say THANKS for all fun, and congrats on this achievement!

WAR Basin joins Dominion Alliance
Posted by Zakrah on 31 March 2010 - 05:26 AM
I'm thrilled to announce that WAR Basin has joined the Dominion Alliance on Badlands. The guilds of Dominion are Ashes to Ashes, Black Phoenix Legion, Hand of Tzeentch, Shadows of Darkness, Eternal Chaos, Tzimisce, Immortals, Disciples of the Fallen, and, as of tonight, Basin and Blitzkrieg.

Given the large concentration of wacky players in Dom, Basin should fit right in, no problem. I'm optimistic that we'll have many fun times together to look forward to in warband, scen group, or pve team.

/cheer!

WAR Basin now guild level 37
Posted by Zakrah on 06 January 2010 - 05:49 AM
WAR Basin guild is now level 37......... that was fast ;)

Grab your 150 golds and buy your upgraded mount at the quartermaster in the Viper Pit. These mounts are faster and have a lower chance for dismount, so it is worth the investment. Plus, they look so darn cool!!!

Good job all :w00t:

Basin joins Retribution Alliance
Posted by Zakrah on 10 October 2009 - 02:00 PM
The Basin is now part of the Retribution Alliance. It is one of the most active alliances on Badlands, plus they have a number of enthusiastic rvr leaders who are the main movers-n-shakers when it comes to Order crushitude. Guilds in Retribution include: All Out Assault, Xen of Onslaught, Pwn Shop, Da Waaagh Division, and Army of Darkness.

I'm thinking that we are going to have a whole lotta fun with our new alliance. Basin has a complimentary set of talents to offer our alliance friends for the good of the realm :)

It'll take a day or two to reset all the alliance permissions - thanks for your patience!

Posted by Zakrah on 14 September 2009 - 01:27 AM
WAR Basin today achieved 100,000,000 renown as a guild! And it has happened one day shy of our first birthday.

A big THANKS to everyone who has ever played WAR wearing a Basin tag over their heads, you've all helped make our guild a success. There will be a party tomorrow night to celebrate our birthday, and yes there will be CAKE (singing is optional) :)

Basin joins "Skullthrone Alliance"
Posted by Zakrah on 28 August 2009 - 03:38 PM
Last night Basin joined the "Skullthrone Alliance" which includes Check Your Tears, KoS, beep beep, and Templar Knights guilds. We are now reunited with a bunch of rvr buddies from our old server, woot! I know we are all looking forward to some serious Order crushitude while teamed up with the folks in our new alliance.

WAR Basin also achieved guild level 33 a couple days ago. Every one of you guys helped get us to this point, thanks for your efforts! With the new level, Basin now has another vault tab: tab4. Tab4 is now our request-only tab for top gear that has been donated by Basiners for request by other Basiners who would put it to good use. See our trading forum for more details.

Finally I want to let you guys know that there is another player on the server who has hit a bad patch. Drevlyx and Mystra are husband/wife who team up to run Hand of Tzeentch guild on Badlands. Mystra had heart surgery a few days ago, but Drev tells me she is doing GREAT. Tomorrow the docs will put the finishing touches on her heart fix, then she should be home soon after that. They have a couple kids who I'm sure are missing their mom, but Drev tells me everyone is holding up well considering the situation. So when we finally do get to team up again with Myst to kill some stunties, give her a big "welcome back" :)

Choose Your New Guild Heraldry!
Posted by Zack on 03 August 2009 - 11:00 PM
As part of the transition from Skull Throne to Badlands, The Basin has opted to take advantage of the option to update our guild emblem and colors. After a very lengthy discussion, we have narrowed down the candidates to nice tight list, broken up by color, emblem and border. If you have not already done so, please take a few minutes to visit the vote thread HERE and cast your vote.

Remember, whatever we pick is going to be on your back until Mythic shuts its doors (or the next transfer!!), so please take advantage of this opportunity to voice your opinion!

Badlands, here we come!
Posted by Zakrah on 14 July 2009 - 03:53 AM
Okies friends... this is what most of the officer crew is thinking of doing for WAR Basin. A couple officers were not on for some of the discussion this evening, so pending their input we may make some changes. We will continue to chart the course as things come up. If you have any suggestions then please reply in the discussion topic. WAR Basin will indeed move to Badlands... more people = more rvr = more fun :)

Here's the plan:

  • You transfer your toons at your leisure to the Badlands server starting tomorrow afternoon. This is done via Mythic's account management website.
  • For the first week or two on Badlands, we have a placeholder guild called "The Basin" (same name as on Skull Throne). We have already made this guild on Badlands, so when your toon is transferred you can whisper an officer right away to get a guild invite. No need to post an invite request.
  • Then after a week or two, we will delete the placeholder guild on Badlands (leaving everyone in the temp "The Basin" without a guild) and transfer our old Skull Throne guild to Badlands with its 31 levels and renown total intact. "The Basin" lvl31 guild (now on Badlands) will be empty, and every Basiner left on Skull Throne will be guildless. Hopefully by waiting a couple weeks, we will have a chance to communicate to our active players on Skull Throne what is happening.
  • Next, you will need to post a new Invite Request for our Badlands Basin guild. Many toon names will be different (including mine) so we need to keep track of who's who on the forum. Once you have successfully transferred your toons and know their name, you can post a fresh invite request in the brand-spankin' new forum.
  • Finally, after your invite request is posted, we can invite you to the lvl31 "The Basin" on Badlands.

Thanks everyone for your patience while we make the move :)

Forum upgrade inc!
Posted by Zakrah on 16 June 2009 - 02:51 AM
Hiya friends, we soon will have a super spiffy forum upgrade after our dynamic duo tech team of nlx and Allweasel make sure things don't blow up in the process. For a sneak preview of the new functionality, check out the Basin Hellgate London boards (alas, that branch of the Basin is gone but the forums are up for testing the upgrade). Don't bother looking in the Hardcore Burial Grounds forum there, or you will discover all the spectacular ways I managed to get my guardians killed

You can help with the upgrade by making sure your email address is the same on every Basin board that you are registered.

I've asked for a list of folks in WAR Basin who have multiple emails spread throughout the Basin branches, when I get my hands on such a list you will hear from me personally ;)

Thanks all for your attention to this matter! It will go a long way to helping minimize the work for our tech team.

Basin hits guild level 30
Posted by Zakrah on 01 June 2009 - 02:02 PM
WAR Basin guild is now level 30 :w00t:

The folks running the LV quests last night pushed us over the top, but every one of you guys has helped us get here with questing, rvr, and keep claims. Thank you all for doing your part to benefit our guild!

We now have a third standard, with one tactic slot on it. We should decide now on at least one more guild tactic, and preferably we should choose three more to max out (we haven't committed to any guild tactics in a looooong time so we could actually do this). I've started a new guild tactic topic, if you have an opinion please post so we can get this done.

Basin also has two more standard bearer spots. If ever you want to use standard, buy one from the quartermaster and then ask an officer/LO to be assigned a standard bearer. Then, you can use our standard for increased run speed if you haven't got a mount yet in T1 or T2 (very fun) or you can use it during pve (leveling at a PQ or for dungeon runs) or for rvr (but do realize that our banner can be taken by the enemy). There is more info about our standards and the tactics they have now in the guild standard topic. So the take home message is: don't hesitate to ask to use a Basin standard! Carry our colors proudly into battle!!!

Arc whipped out the Vendetta standard in a scenario a couple days ago... I wouldn't recommend doing this unless you are VERY confident in your scenario team. It had the effect of freaking out at least one healer who felt even more pressure to keep him up, the enemy tends to focus on anyone who is holding a banner. It did add another dimension of fun to the scen, though :)

The last perk we received as a level 30 guild is the ability to upgrade keep doors to level4. We discussed this a bit in officer chat and it is unclear how much benefit it will be, but perhaps every little bit helps during a keep defense. The downside is that additional upgrades drain our guild coffers even faster. There has been some talk of having a weekly in-game guild gold production night - we will raise taxes to the max and farm the crum out of some PQ. I have two warlord pieces that were donated to the guild and will try to sell them to raise our guild savings so we can continue to claim keeps without worry about funding it, but until then we should probably try to claim only when strategically critical to the war effort and only do the big keep upgrades when the keep is actually under attack.

Finally, as always, if you have any suggestions for WAR Basin don't hesitate to post, send a PM, or poke me in game :)

Thanks all!

Zak

Basin Fund Drive
Posted by Zakrah on 27 May 2009 - 08:11 PM
Hiya friends...

To keep the Basin running we need to feed the hamsters. Unfortunately, hamster food isn't free. What's nice is that we only pass the hat for the hamster food fund about once a year, so that you don't have to endure ads and other nonsense while surfing our lovely forums.

Every time I group up with you guys I’m reminded that the most fascinating thing about our guild is the huge variety of folks who proudly wear the Basin tag. Basiners are drawn together here in our virtual home from around the world, each of you bringing an interesting personality and spectrum of talent which makes gaming together hella fun.

Also in this mix is probably as great a range of abilities to donate, so don’t feel any pressure to give. However, after taking a moment to think about how much the Basin is a part of you (even while at the same time you are an integral part of the Basin), should you feel so moved to donate then please do :)

ta muchly!

Zak

ps. Please check out TPJ's note on the Basin main forum for info about which hamsters are hungry.

Destruction in Altdorf
Posted by Zakrah on 17 May 2009 - 11:01 AM
Skull Throne Destruction made a triumphant return to Altdorf on Thursday, for the first time since last year! To get even this far, it took legions of Destruction coordinated by a handful of fearless leaders, many of whom have been working tirelessly for months to make it happen.

Congrats to everyone on a job well done :)

The achievement is a major landmark on the way to capturing the enemy city and the ultimate challenge: taking out Emperor Karl Franz. So, there is no time to rest on our laurels -- there are bigger fish to fry!

For more details there are a few write-ups in the Basin RvR thread, including Morel's description of a woolly mammoth in Victoria's Secret and Staark waxing poetic about getting all tingly.

The previous visit to Altdorf was Dec 6 2008, and I get the impression there were as many frustrations on Thursday as there was last time once the enemy city became instanced. Mythic needs to get their stuff together so that wb of folks who have worked together all night can stay together for fighting in the city. In the meantime, it would be worthwhile discussing how to improve things next time we get to the enemy city.

Congrats again to everyone involved, and I'm sorry the news item is a few days late... my keyboard had to dry out after getting inundated by saltwater ;)

Zak

ps Anyone get any screenshots???
