Diablo II Notation Basic Class Skill Item Ally Quest Area Monster Tale Diablo II Classic Expansion Patch Multiplayer Single Player Hardcore Ladder Difficulty Resurrected Reign of the Warlock Patch (D2R) Ladder (D2R) Diablo II: Resurrected was released on Windows (Battle.net), Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox One on September 23, 2021, and on Steam on February 12, 2026[1]. Is a separate game, not an expansion to Diablo II. It must be purchased separately from the legacy version and separately on each platform. Players can create Classic and Expansion characters. Unless stated otherwise, all content of this wiki is valid for the current patch of the Expansion. Some differences between the Expansion and Resurrected are outlined below. Besides improved graphics, D2R introduced some Quality of Life improvements, some of which can be toggled off, and plenty of bugfixes. Subsequent patches added some new content. Ladders have not been part of the original release of the game and were added later. Game modes Offline This is the "single player" experience. Character and shared stash saves are stored client-side. One can use cheating tools to modify the saves or install game mods. The "offline" part refers to the location of the saves (client-side) and the inability to play with other players. In order to play Offline mode, one still needs to connect to the Battle.net servers every 30 days. Online This is the "Closed Battle.net" experience. Saves are stored server-side. The other multiplayer game modes, such as Open Battle.net, TCP/IP or modded realms are not available in D2R. This change made it impossible to use hacked characters in multiplayer, but at the same time killed multiplayer mods. D2R servers are completely separate from original Battle.net, and one cannot play on them with the legacy Diablo II or vice versa. There are 3 regions available: Americas, Europe and Asia, but unlike in the predecessor, in D2R online saves are global. Players can freely switch regions for better latency, without losing progress. [2] There is no cross-play (players on different platforms cannot play together), although there is cross-progression (if one owns D2R on multiple platforms, online saves are synced between them). Trading between platforms is possible for players who own D2R on multiple platforms (by cross-progression save syncing), or they can mediate trades between those who do not. Quality of Life Gold can be picked up by simply moving over it. The Windows version can be played via game controller instead of mouse and keyboard. Using game controller skill selection is much easier than via mouse and keyboard. Item The Stash in the Expansion mode now contains 4 tabs: the first tab is the individual 10×10 stash of each character, like in the original game's Expansion mode; the three other 10×10 tabs are shared between all Expansion characters on an account (although separately for SC/HC and NLD/LD). After a ladder reset, the shared stash is emptied and its content moved to a withdraw-only stash accessible by non-ladder characters. Classic characters are limited to the original 4×6 individual stash, and no shared stash. Items and Rune Words that were ladder-only in LoD are available in single player and non-ladder games. Some old RWs can be made in additional bases. [10] Hireling Stats do not depend on the difficulty level they were hired on. Rogue Scout Can use Amazon bows and benefits from Amazon Skill Levels. Fire Added Exploding Arrow Cold Added Freezing Arrow Desert Mercenary On Nightmare and Hell all 6 different aura types are available. No longer called "Combat"/"Offensive"/"Defensive". Iron Wolf Increased life, defense and resistances. Now has the highest resistances compared to other hirelings. Cold Uses Chilling Armor instead of Frozen Armor. Fire Uses Fire Bolt instead of Inferno. Added Enchant. Lightning Added Static Field. Barbarian Benefits from Barbarian Skill Levels. Increased life and defense. Now has the highest life and defense compared to other hirelings. Two-handed Added Battle Cry. Dual Wielding New hireling type. Skills: Frenzy, Taunt, Iron Skin Weapon: two one-handed swords. Quest The World Event is available in single player, and requires the player to sell one Stone of Jordan unique ring. On multiplayer World Event, once triggered, occurs in all the games on a whole region, not on a specific IP. The Pandemonium Event is available in single player. Area Contrary to Classic and the Expansion, killing the Cow King does not remove the ability to create the portal to the Moo Moo Farm. Buffed some area levels to level 85 [11] Terror Zones were introduced.
