Lightning arrows are traps down the center of the Traps skill tree. Like all traps, fire trap skills are situational in that every skill has its uses, strengths and weakness.
Clvl: 6
Prerequisites: Fire Blast.
Effect: Throw a web of lightning to shock your enemies.
Properties: Can be blocked, dodged, can be resisted/negated/absorbed via lightning resistance/immunity/absorption. Starts with six spikes.
Synergy from: Fire Blast: +1 missile/3 slvls, Charged Bolt Sentry: +11% lightning damage/slvl, Lightning Sentry: +11% lightning damage/slvl, Death Sentry: +11% lightning damage/slvl.
Synergy to:
Fire Blast: +9% fire damage/slvl,
Lightning Sentry: +12% lightning damage/slvl
Shock Web can be assigned to the primary attack button.
Clvl: 12
Prerequisites: Fire Blast, Shock Web.
Effect: A trap that emits charged bolts at enemies that pass near.
Properties: Can be blocked, dodged, can be resisted/negated/absorbed via lightning resistance/immunity/absorption. Starts with five bolts that are fired five times.
Synergy from: Fire Blast: +6% lightning damage/slvl, Shock Web: +1 bolt/3 slvl, Lightning Sentry: +1 shot/4 slvls & +6% lightning damage/slvl, Death Sentry: +6% lightning damage/slvl.
Synergy to:
Fire Blast: +9% fire damage/slvl,
Shock Web: +11% lightning damage/slvl
Clvl: 24
Prerequisites: Fire Blast, Shock Web, Charged Bolt Sentry.
Effect: A trap that shoots lightning to scorch passing enemies.
Properties: Can be blocked, dodged, can be resisted/negated/absorbed via lightning resistance/immunity/absorption. Starts with ten shots.
Synergy from: Shock Web: +12% lightning damage/slvl, Charged Bolt Sentry: +12% lightning damage/slvl, Death Sentry: +12% lightning damage/slvl.
Synergy to:
Fire Blast: +9% fire damage/slvl,
Shock Web: +11% lightning damage/slvl,
Charged Bolt Sentry: +6% lightning damage/slvl
For pure damage, this trap can't be beat. Because of its many damage bonuses from synergies, this is usually the trap of choice of most trappers.
Clvl: 30
Prerequisites: Fire Blast, Shock Web, Charged Bolt Sentry, Lightning Sentry.
Effect: Trap that shoots lightning at your enemies or explodes nearby corpses laying waste to more enemies.
Properties: Can be blocked, dodged, can be resisted/negated/absorbed via lightning resistance/immunity/absorption, corpse explosions can be resisted/negated/absorbed via physical resistance/immunity or fire resistance/immunity/absorption. Corpse explosion damage is 40-80% of the target's total life. Starts with five shots.

a.k.a. "canned necromancer." Whether you concentrate on traps or martial arts, this skill is definitely worth looking at: it either nicely supplements other lightning traps and Fire Blast with its abilities and synergies or works in conjuction with the concentrated damage of the assassin's martial arts.
If you're playing a trapper, the standard operating procedure with this trap is to lay Lightning Sentries down until enough targets are killed, then to plant a combination of Lightning and Death Sentries for easy kills.
If you'replaying a martial artist, my SOP is to ignore all other traps in favor of Death Sentry. What isn't desired is the puny lightning damage, but the high detection and blast radius of the corpse explosions.
