==What is a wiki?==
A wiki is a web site that all users can edit: see the [http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki_User%27s_Guide MediaWiki User's Guide] for more details.
<br>
<br>
==Who can edit?==
Anyone who has [https://www.theamazonbasin.com/forums/index.php?/forums/topic/125734-how-do-i-join-the-basin-wiki/ requested an account] and had that request approved can edit our wiki (be sure to read [[Basin Wiki:Terms of Service|Terms of Service]] before submitting request). Requests should be processed within 24 hours.

[[File:Blocked users.png|center|thumb|800px|Automatic account creation was disabled due to the significant and sustained increase in abuse in 2011. Only 7 new users went on to make legitimate contributions in the same year, so abusers outnumbered them 220 to 1.]]
<br>

==How do I edit?==
Once your account request has been approved, log in and click on the Edit tab at the top of the page. You can create a new page by typing a page name into the url (wiki.theamazonbasin.com/index.php/pagename; first letter is automatically capitalized). You can add a link to the new page to an existing page by editing the existing page to include the new page's name in double square brackets ( <nowiki>[[pagename]]</nowiki> ). It's sometimes easier to make the link ''first'', and then just click on it to start editing: see the [http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki_User%27s_Guide MediaWiki User's Guide] for more details.
<br>
<br>
==Who is in control?==
Anyone with an account can edit existing pages, add new pages, upload files and even change the name of existing pages by moving them. That said, administrators and bureaucrats do have veto power over any aspect should problems arise.
<br>
<br>
==Is this an official Basin wiki?==
Yeah, please consider this the 'official' Basin wiki. It is always evolving and always changing, but there are no plans to replace this wiki.
<br>
<br>
==What happens to content posted?==
Content is going to stay right where it is, it won't be sold or handed off to any other sites.

Blizzard announced on 28 June 2008 that Diablo III was in development. Beta was announced on [http://us.battle.net/d3/en/blog/3542796/The_Diablo_III_Beta_Is_Now_Live-9_20_2011#blog 20 September 2011], and it was announced on [http://us.battle.net/d3/en/blog/4612389/Diablo_III_Launching_May_15_%E2%80%93_Digital_Pre-Sales_NOW_OPEN-3_15_2012#blog 15 March 2012] that Diablo III would be released on {{Ub|=15 May 2012}}.

[https://www.theamazonbasin.com/forums/index.php?/forums/forum/278-diablo-iii/ Our own Diablo III forums] officially opened on [http://www.theamazonbasin.com/d3/forums/index.php?/topic/382-d3-boards-officially-open/ 7 May 2012].

Blizzard announced on [http://us.battle.net/d3/en/blog/11867681/reaper-of-souls%E2%84%A2-unleashed-on-march-25-2014-prepurchase-now-12-19-2013 19 December 2013] that Diablo III: Reaper of Souls, an expansion including Act V and the Crusader class, would be released on {{Ub|=25 March 2014}}.

==General==
[http://battle.net/d3/game/what-is What's New in Diablo III]:
*'''Four''' difficulty levels, with 4 acts each: Normal, Nightmare, Hell, Inferno. Inferno difficulty is for level-capped chars, the difficulty is uniform in each act in this difficulty and it's meant to give capped characters areas to play that will give good loot drops without having to resort to just boss runs.
*[http://us.battle.net/d3/en/blog/3435570#blog Shared Stash] There is a stash shared among all characters on an account, accessible in town and expandable with gold.
*[http://battle.net/d3/services/auction-house/ Auction House] Items will be able to be traded between accounts on the Auction House. Softcore characters can trade items for gold or real money, whereas Hardcore characters are limited to gold transactions.
**Other players in your party can port to your location via a banner in town that you can click to join them.
*[http://us.battle.net/d3/en/blog/3390853 Health] Health Globes are the main way of recovering health during battle, and will drop from slain monsters.
*Blizzard Poster Bashiok has indicated that PvP will be consensual in Diablo III:

<blockquote>{{M|=We're - in general - not big fans of griefing for any game. It's really only "fun" for one person, and that definition of fun isn't generally something we're going to want to encourage. It's far more positive to encourage and support meaningful and skillful options and systems within a game, than a mechanic for people to instantly turn against one another for no meaningful gameplay reasons.
<br>
<br>
I definitely remember running with my friends, and someone toggles it, and bam everyone is dead and your one friend is laughing. Ok, ok, good joke I guess, and then you run back and *bam*, you've toggled it to get them back. After a while everyone usually agrees to a truce because it's just a waste of time. But I also remember running with random players and losing extremely nice items because of it, not cool. I'm sure that it was a feature that was right up some people's alleys, I won't deny there are some that would enjoy nothing more than to see others frustrated, but is that truly something that should be encouraged through design - if not directly opposed?
<br>
<br>
We have a large focus on cooperative play for Diablo III, and the mechanics and design decisions related to multiplayer are likely going to be based on supporting and encouraging it as much as possible, and not breaking it down.
<br>
<br>
That doesn't mean that PvP won't have its own focus, but those are details and features we aren't yet discussing.}}</blockquote>
<br>

*[http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/3123249164 Crafting Thus Far]
*Artisans can be 'leveled up' through Tome of Training (made from Page of Training, a dropped item) and Plans that are dropped items. They are account-wide. Artisans will be able to specialize in order to get better results with a specific weapon or armor type, but the information so far is that specializations are not exclusive, so that it should be possible to specialize in all of the types you would like.
*Mystics will have the unique ability to change the appearance of your equipment to match the look of any other equipment (for the same location on the body) that you have found thus far in Reaper of Souls.
*Mystics will also have the unique ability to exchange a SINGLE MAGIC AFFIX from a piece of equipment for you to a random result.
<br>

==Follower==
*A [[Follower]] is similar to a [[mercenary]] in [[Diablo II]], although only available when playing solo. They have storyline elements, but are designed not to 'outshine' the hero. Blizzard initially intended followers to be available in Normal only, but after feedback they will be available in all difficulty levels.

*Followers will leave you when another player enters the game, but can return to you when you are along. They can only be used for "single player" gaming.

*The followers are:
*[http://us.battle.net/d3/en/follower/templar/ Templar]

<br>

* The Fallen Star
==Monsters==
Blizzard has said that monsters will not have elemental immunities in Diablo III, unlike Diablo II where monsters with two (or more) immunities could be issues for certain builds.

Boss and Champion monsters will have [[Special Effects]] according to the difficulty level they are encountered in. In normal difficulty, they will have 1 effect. In Nightmare, they will have 2 effects. In Hell, they will have 3 effects. In Inferno, they will have 4 effects. Some combinations of effects can be very powerful, especially if they include Crowd Control effects combined with Ground Effects.
*New characters always start in Normal difficulty: Nightmare difficulty can only be played by each character after that character has completed Normal, and Hell difficulty can only be played after completing Nightmare.
*Prior to patch 1.13 it was necessary to complete Normal with at least one character to access Hardcore mode. This is no longer the case.
*After completing Normal, only Nightmare games will be displayed on the games list for Realm characters; after completing Nightmare, only Hell games will be displayed. However, Normal and Nightmare games can still be created, and games in any difficulty level can be joined by typing the game name.
*In Expansion games, level < 20 characters cannot complete the [[Rite of Passage (quest)|Rite of Passage]] quest in Normal, and thus cannot complete Normal: for the same reason, level < 40 characters cannot complete Nightmare and level < 60 characters cannot complete Hell. Unhelpfully, the quest log does not reveal this until the Ancients have already been defeated once (although the level requirements are mentioned in the patch notes for 1.08). **[[Lightning Enchanted]]
*The explosions of Fire Enchanted Unique monsters and dying [[Bone Fetish]]es apply a reduced percentage of base life as damage in Nightmare and Hell. However, since base life increases in Nightmare and Hell this normally still results in them applying more damage in absolute terms (just not as much as they would if percentages weren't reduced).
This is a test for creating a new page called [[Basin News]].

I've just merged the "Unofficial WoW Wiki" with the wiki database here. This was a very hairy process, but I'm pretty sure we didn't lose any data (all is backed up elsewhere if we did). WoW users will need to reregister. Please give a helping hand in getting the new wiki together. The WoW wiki can be accessed via the left nav or via [[Main Page WoW]] --[[User:Malphigian|Malphigian]] 17:11, 21 Feb 2005 (Eastern Standard Time)
The DAoC branch is working on their [[DAoC Main Page|Main Page]].

Wiki moved over from TPJ's server to the main Basin server. All the Basin resources are now hosted on the Basin server. Sorry for the downtime, but it was something that needed to be done. Back to Wiki'ing. (NLX3647)

You have to be logged in to make changes now. This is to prevent trolls and spammers from making changes and putting links up here that we don't want.

=A Guild Wars Guide for the Diablo II Player=

This guide is intended as a collection of information geared towards that Diablo II player who is thinking about taking the plunge and coming over to play Guild Wars.

==Player vs. Environment (PvE) Gameplay==

'''Note: Players are encouraged to reserve one of their four character slots for a PvP character.''' (see PvP section below for more information)

Guild Wars gameplay compared to [[Diablo2]] in a few words:
* group play is more important and more required
* monsters are much tougher relative to players
* monsters have skills, armor, and equipment that works the same way as for players
* fights are longer due to stronger monsters (approx. 15-30 seconds of fight per monster)

Very few characters will be able to efficiently play solo against monsters in [[Guild Wars]], unlike [[Diablo2]]. Most groups will need some kind of healer (e.g., a primary Monk), as well as a mix of other characters to win. Although parties can often do fine with less than max group size, rarely can groups of 1 or 2 win against the monsters. There is still the option to hire [[henchmen]] to fill your party's ranks but these computer-controlled allies come with their own deficiencies.

In addition, most monsters are in the same toughness range as the players fighting them. Although some [[character builds]] can do a lot of damage to a single monster in very short time, there are no instant kills. This means that battles will last longer in Guild Wars than in [[Diablo 2]]. As a rule of thumb, battles probably last around 15-30 seconds for each monster. People will therefore often want to fight less monsters at the same time as group size (most groups in Guild Wars will probably consists of around four players).

Monsters all have the same types of attacks as players do, except for some rare ones such as [[Giant Stomp]]. For example, if a monster is of a ranger type, it will use either a bow or some ranged attack as a regular attack in addition to its ranger skills; it will have extra armor against elemental damage and its armor against physical damage will be somewhere between warriors and casters. This applies to the monsters of the other five professions types as well.

==Character Progression==

Characters use skills and attributes differently in guild wars than in D2. In Guild wars, characters all have the same amount of life at the same level, have mana based on their character's armor, always hit with attacks unless certain conditions or hex are on them, and/or the target is certain enchantments or stances on and damage reduction comes from armor alone. Attributes for characters are not used for these things, instead, they are used to improve the powers of skills. Instead of having skill point associated with one particular skill, attribute points improve all skills acssociated with them, so, for instance, if you improve fire magic for extra firestorm damage, you will improve skills such as meteor also which appear later in the game.

Attributes can be reassigned in any town, and skills can be changed around as well, so, for instance, if you're about to go into a area with lots of fighter type monsters, you can change skills to ones that do better vs. fighters, and possibly change attributes to make those skills more powerful. Some attributes (marksmanship, swordsmanship, ax mastery, hammer mastery) improve weapon damage, others (the primarty attributes and beast mastery) have other effects.

Characters hit level 20 around two thirds into the game, after this the monsters increase somewhat in level to 24-28 near the end of the game. The attribute/skill system means that characters won't ever have to save skillpints, and will be useful throughout the game, even in early areas with only basic skills. Many basic skills, in fact, are useful throughout the gameand except for the elite skills, the only major difference between early and late game skills is that early game skills are on average simpler to use.

The storyline in Guild wars is more involved than in Diablo 2. Itr has a number of twists and turns, and most of the time your character is in the middle of the important action. Guild wars also has, in many opinions, more interesting terrain than D2, thanks partially to the camera view and being 3-D, but partially it is drawn very well. The shiverpeaks really feel like a mountain range, the ring of fire really feels like a barren volcanic area, etc.

==Player vs. Player (PvP) Gameplay==

The Player vs. Player experience in Guild Wars is vastly different than the PvP that took place in Diablo II. Most of Diablo II's PvP play was focused on "duels," which, over time, became increasingly frustrating for new players. The equipment, attribute, and skill point requirements to be competitive in PvP (not to mention class imbalances and cheating) were incredibly high.

Guild Wars differs greatly from the Diablo II experience in that the game really does rely on strategy, tactics, and skills more than the equipment your character is wearing. The flexible nature of skill use, attribute assignment, and even secondary profession (for PvE characters) ensures that characters never become "obsolete" because of changes in the metagame. And while equipment does play a role (a warrior with a Superior Vigor rune will have an advantage over a warrior without), the role is smaller, and nearly eliminates the "equipment gap" that made Diablo II PvP difficult for new players.

Because Guild Wars is a team game, there is no formal concept of duels, and PvP can only occur in specially-designated arenas. There is no risk, for example, of one of your party members "going hostile" in the middle of a mission. With the exception of the Random Arenas that are available, most PvP will also involve a bit of planning on a [[team build]] to maximize the effectiveness of the characters involved.

'''Players are encouraged to reserve one of their four character slots for a PvP character.'''

While you are playing your PvE characters, you will "unlock" skills and items/equipment. When you have unlocked an item or a skill, it is immediately available to a newly created PvP character. Read this twice. It really means that you can use all unlocked skills and equipment from your PvE characters on your PvP character.

There is no need to build a character for PvP from the ground up. Instead, since you can delete and recreate this character at will, it allows you to experience various classes and builds, as well as take advantage of newly-unlocked items and skills.

==System Requirements==

For a game that is so graphically beautiful, Guild Wars will run on some of the barest of hardware out there. While the system requirements are a bit higher than those required to run Diablo II, it certainly isn't a game that requires the latest $2500 Falcon-NW machine to run! Check out the Guild Wars website for the (minimum) [http://www.guildwars.com/aboutgw/faq/default.php#support system requirements].

Broadband is not required to play the game. Your download of updates and loading of areas will take a bit longer, but the game will run just fine.

==Community==

There are some similarities between the community created by the Basin in Diablo II and Guild Wars, but there is also somme major differences.

Much like the Diablo II Guild, the Guild Wars community asks that everyone "Play Nice and Show Some Class." This is especially important in a game such as Guild Wars. If you were a jerk in a public Diablo II game, there was little chance (unless you volunteered the information) that you'd be tracked back to the Basin. And even if you were, there was no greater community in Diablo II that could do anything about it. In Guild Wars, however, you wear a cape on your back and a tag on your name that identifies you. Not only does this provide recognition, but there are several other guilds that the Basin has ties to in the game. Not playing nice and showing class can ripple through many playing groups.

In Diablo II, the Basin created an "artificial" playing environment to circumvent design decisions by Blizzard. Drops were shared among all party members. PvP was strictly forbidden unless agreed to. Games were passworded through WeaselTech and cared for by those involved. In Guild Wars, however, many of these problems were addressed by the game design itself. Items are "reserved" for players when they drop, and gold is automatically shared. PvP only occurs in arenas specially designed for PvP. And an instanced game world means you don't have to worry about killing that Charr boss; it doesn't matter to anyone outside of your party.

On the downside, the design of Guild Wars does mean that you can't just "hop in" to a game already in progress. If you're not there at the start of the mission, you can't join until the party reaches the next outpost. And party size limiations increase gradually throughout the game, limiting the size of the group that can adventure together. Furthermore, while everyone in the Basin could have (theoretically) crammed into the same chat channel, guilds in Guild Wars are limited to 100 members, forcing the Basin to spilt across three different Guilds, as well as Guild Ladder Teams.

Nevertheless, we've built a strong community. The [http://www.theamazonbasin.com/gw/forums Basin's Guild Wars forums], [http://www.theamazonbasin.com/gw/forums/index.php?showtopic=2224 our IRC channels] and our [http://www.theamazonbasin.com/index.php?content=ts_howto TeamSpeak server] serve as central hubs for communication. In-game relayers will transmit messages of games and events to other Basin guilds upon request. And group games such as Mission Possible! and GvG Frenzy take place regularily. You'll find that the community created in Guild Wars is a strong, active one, willing and able to help out at any time.

=A Guild Wars Guide for the Diablo II Player=

This guide is intended as a collection of information geared towards that Diablo II player who is thinking about taking the plunge and coming over to play Guild Wars.

==Player vs. Environment (PvE) Gameplay==

==Character Progression==

==Player vs. Player (PvP) Gameplay==

==System Requirements==

==Community==

Nevertheless, we've built a strong community. The forums and IRC serve as central hubs for communication. In-game relayers will transmit messages of games and events to other Basin guilds upon request. And group games such as Mission Possible! and GvG Frenzy take place regularily. You'll find that the community created in Guild Wars is a strong, active one, willing and able to help out at any time.

==Player vs. Player (PvP) Gameplay==

Players are encouraged to reserve one of their four character slots for a PvP character. Since you can delete and recreate this character at will, it allows you to experience various classes and builds, as well as take advantage of newly-unlocked items and skills.

==System Requirements==

==Community==

==Player vs. Environment (PvE) Gameplay==

=A Guild Wars Guide for the Diablo II Player=

This guide is intended as a collection of information geared towards that Diablo II player who is thinking about taking the plunge and coming over to play Guild Wars.

==Player vs. Environment (PvE) Gameplay==
Guild wars gameplay:
needs groups of players a lot more
Has tougher monsters relative to players
Monsters have skills, armor, and equipment that works the same way as players.
Has longer fights

Very few characters will be able to efficiently play solo against monsters in [[Guild Wars]], unlike [[Diablo2]]. Most groups will need some kind of healer (e.g., a primary Monk), as well as a mix of other characters to win. Although parties can often do fine with less than max group size, rarely can groups of 1 or 2 win against the monsters. There is still the option to hire [[henchmen]] to fill your party's ranks but these computer-controlled allies come with their own deficiencies.

In addition, most monsters are in the same toughness range as the players fighting them, meaning that people will often want to fight less monsters at the same time as group size. Most groups fought in guild wars will probably be around size 4 or so.

Battles last longer in Guild Wars than [[Diablo 2]]. Although some [[character builds]] can do a lot of damage to a single monster in very short time, there are no instant kills. As a rule of thumb, battles probably last around 15-30 seconds for each monsters.

Monsters all have the same types of attacks as players do, except for some rare ones such as giant stomp.

Elegantly: /* Final things to do before entering the instance */ added healer discussion

In progress as I find time/procrastinate on homework. I know the formatting for this is borked; will fix as I steal code from others :P

So you've hit the appropriate level for your first instance, and you're not quite what all these people are talking about/doing. Hopefully this will help fill in the blanks for you. Apologies in advance for problems with grammar, spelling, game mechanics, class skills or talents, and the like. I'll try to make this guide as good as I can, and welcome comments for improvements.

= Preparing for the Instance =

It is a good habit to get into that you fully prepare before entering the instance. This may include:

* Repairing equipment
* Purchasing reagents for skills (Shamans/Druids especially since they have so many, Priests/Paladins as they get higher)
* Purchase ammunition (Hunters especially, Rogues/Warriors if they expect to use a ranged weapon frequently, more on that later)
* Purchase or otherwise obtain food and drink if you need it. This includes food for pets (Hunter).
* Food decreases the amount of time a party has to wait to recover and can provide enhancements to your charactor.
* Drink is important for classes with mana, as it dramatically decreases how long you spend outside of battle.
* Gathering quests - most of the instances have decent writeups in the wiki, which include listings of the quests. Alternately, you can use the resources Thottbot and Allakhazam to find out what quests are available. Some of these quests will be shareable, but many quests for instances require that you complete other quests that lead up to a larger quest inside an instance. It would be inconsiderate for someone to make you wait an hour before starting, try not to do so to others. In other words, get the quests ready ahead of time so you don't make people wait for you.
* (Optional step) - prepare your snacks and drinks in real life. Many people like to have some food and drink by them as they run an instance, in expectation of a gaming session of multiple hours. Just like preparing your character, prepare yourself :P
* Arrive on time - if your group has planned this run in advance, start moving down to wherever "there" is, early. If necessary, look up a map to discover how to get to the instance or where ever your group is gathering. Again, this is a common courtesy to the other people in your group.

= Quick break to outline some terms that will be used by groups =

Aggro - Aggro refers to aggression by the monster towards the party. Every action performed in combat generates aggro and the monster will target the player with the most aggro. Since the person with aggro is getting hit a lot, we try to keep a sturdy class at the top of the aggro list (re: most aggro). This allows healers to concentrate healing on one target (making their jobs easier) and more fragile classes can avoid getting smashed since the sturdy class is getting hit.

(Main) Assist - In an instance group, it is often important for a party to focus fire on a single target to more quickly decrease the enemy forces. However, focusing fire in the middle of chaotic combat is nigh impossible. Thus you have the (Main) Assist. This is the person who chooses what dies and what dies later. This player will choose a target, and through the use of Assist Macros (more on these later), will get the entire party to focus their attacks on that target.

MOB/mob - from the MUDs of yesteryear, meaning essentially Mobile Object. In World of Warcraft. it is the general term for something that a player is expected to interact with for any reason.

Pull/Puller - this refers to someone that brings the mobs back to the group. This is not always necessary, but is generally a good practice to get into since it is always preferable to fight in a battlefield of your own choosing. The puller often uses a ranged attack or ability to draw the enemy's attention, and you will often see warriors or hunter be designated the group's "puller." In some situations, a pull will be made with a mage casting Polymorph (sheep pull), a priest casting Mind Control (MC Pull), or a paladin (face pull :P).

Tank - another term from older games, the tank is the player tasked with taking damage so other players don't have to. The preferred tank is often a warrior, although paladins, shamans, hunters, a hunter's pet and rogues are known to play the tank in certain situations.

"You are the thin, blood-red line between those that can do damage versus that which can do damage to them. You are hitpoints given mobility, a meatshield, a damage sponge, a wall with legs, a speed bump in the Damagemart parking lot." - Doomhaven

Off Tank - In some situations an off tank is assigned to maintain aggro on a mob to reduce the damage that the Main Tank is taking.

Peeler - this is the person tasked with dealing with something that has escaped the gaze of the Tank and is attacking another member of the party. The class will vary on the situation, but the job is the same. If something breaks away from the tank and starts hitting the people in the back, the off tank goes over to smartly rap the mob upside the head to get it off the more fragile player and then keeps it occupied it is dead or tank can come over and regain aggro.

Wipe - this refers to an entire party dying. Wipes should be avoided as much as possible, as dying and running back to your body wastes time that could be spent adventuring. Not sure where this bit of slang came from, just know that it means that you'll be starting that fight and possibly more all over again.

= Final things to do before entering the instance =

Talk to your group.
* Be clear on who the leader of the group/raid is.
* Find out who is expected to be the main tank and who is to be the off tank.
* Find out who will be the main assist.
* Find out who will be primary healer and backup/support healer (if any).
* Discuss the rules for loot.

Yes, this is boring crap and you just want to kill more monsters. Unfortunately, this discussion can be the difference between a solid group making a smooth run through an instance and a lousy group that falls apart the first time that they wipe.

Making an assist macro - in your command line, type "/macro" or access the menu with the escape key and click the button marked "Macros." At that point, you can see a menu with tons of blank spaces. Click one of them and it will bring up a submenu. Choose an icon and write in a name like "Assist." In the bottom box, type in the command "/assist XXXX" where XXXX is the person that has been designated the assist. When this is completed, click the completed button and your new macro is finished. At this point, you can drag this macro button to your toolbar and should use it in place of your default attack when doing instances or raids.

Elegantly: Fixed formatting and typos

In progress as I find time/procrastinate on homework. I know the formatting for this is borked; will fix as I steal code from others :P

So you've hit the appropriate level for your first instance, and you're not quite what all these people are talking about/doing. Hopefully this will help fill in the blanks for you. Apologies in advance for problems with grammar, spelling, game mechanics, class skills or talents, and the like. I'll try to make this guide as good as I can, and welcome comments for improvements.

= Preparing for the Instance =

It is a good habit to get into that you fully prepare before entering the instance. This may include:

* Repairing equipment

== Instance guides ==
First off why go to an instance at all? Instances are much more difficult than soloing and are the best place to experience group play. It can be very very fun to have a good group humming through an instance exploring and experiencing the adventure. There is also the loot of course.

A short guide to the instances can be found in the [[Instance Guide Summary]].

The level ranges associated with the instance are the level ranges of the elite mobs found inside from lowest to highest. This is why Onyxia is listed as 41-62. There are actually level 41 elites in there, at least according to Thottbot. --[[User:Jini|Jini]]
