The role of a trader in EVE is to make money by moving goods, and making profit along the way. Trade is not as striaghtforward as running missions or mining for minerals, and can thus be a daunting prospect for a trader fresh out of character creation. This guide aims to help those who are intrested in the world of EVE trading take their first steps.

Character Creation: A Prequel
Before we start discussing the character creation it is important to note that no matter how you create your character, he can still pick up all needed skills later on. If you started as a miner you can simply buy the needed trade skills and get going, but a character created with trading in mind will have a head start on some key skills. Remember to strike a good balance between your attributes, in this case charisma will be one of the more important ones. Charisma helps with all trade and social skills.

Skill Overview
While all skills can beefit you at some point or other, there are a select few skills which are extra important to the trader. Sometimes it is not allways apparent what their direct benefit is. This section will attempt to cover the skills of the trade.
;-Trade, Retail, Wholesale and Tycoon : All of these skills increases the maximum number of active buy and sell orders you may have at the same time. A starting character without the trade skill will be able to have the minimum amount of orders (5), each level of these skills adds to that number. Buy and sell orders are used when you don´t want to buy or sell directly (access the options for buy/sell orders by clicking the "advanced" option when buying/selling).
; - Broker Relations (Requires Trade II): Each time you set up a buy and/or sell order it will be handled thru an automated ingame broker. Like real life stock brokers the EVE brokers will not work for free, and requires a fee. This fee is normall 1% of the order amount (with a minimum of 100 isk, which means a buy order for set up for a value 1000 isk will still have a 100 isk broker fee). Each level of the broker relations skill will lower the broker fee by 5% (So at Broker relations II the broker fee will be 0,9%). Note that the broker fee can be aditionally modified by your standings to the corporation/faction which owns the station in which you set up the order)
; - Accounting (Requires Trade IV): Each time you sell an item on the market (directly or by sell order) you will have to pay a sales tax of 1% of the total sell value. Each level of this skill reduces the sales tax by 10% (At Accounting V you will have reduced the sales tax to 0,5%). Note that the sales tax in paid in addition to any broker fees that might apply (see above).
; - Daytrading (Requires Trade IV): Once you have placed a buy and/or sell order you can modify them while you are in the same station as the order. This reuires no skills. What Daytrading does is enabling you to remotly modify your orders, which means that you can change buy/sell price of an order even if you are a few jumps away from the station in which the order was placed. At level V you will be able to modify your orders anywhere in the region in which you are located. This is a very handy skill which enables you to react better to fluctuations in the market.
;- Marketing (Requires Trade II): This enables you to remotly sell your items. Normally you will have to be at the same station as your item in order to sell it, the Marketing skill increases the range between you and the item at which you are able to sell it. If you have Marketing at II and you have an item in a hangar 4 jumps away from your current location you can now remotly sell it (either directly or by way of sell order)
; - Procurement (Requires Trade II and Marketing II): This is a mirror skill to Marketing. It allows you to place remote buy orders on the market. Each level of the skill increases the maximum distance between you and the station where you want your buy order placed. Note that you can allways buy directly from the market anywhere in the region, this skill only effects buy orders. Also note that in order for you to set up a remote buy order the item in question must be up for sale at the target station.
; - Visability (Requires Trade II, Marketing II and Procurement IV): This skill increases you remote by order range. When you place a station in which you are physically located you can select any buy order range you want (the range from the order station which you want your buy order to effect). When you place a remote order with Procurement you will need the Visability skill to be able to select any buy order range other than station. With the Visability skill at II you can place a remote buy order with the remote buy order range of 5 jumps. This might sound complicated, but play around with the prder settings in game and you will get the hang of it.
; - Margin Trading (Requires Trade IV and Accounting IV): When you place a buy order you will have to place the required amount of isk needed to complete the order in escrow, in essence it will be money will be locked down until the buy order is filled or until you cancel the order. The Margin Trading skill reduces the amount (by a percentage) of isk you will have to pay up front when you place a buy order by 25% each level after the first. This will allow you to keep your funds more mobile. The question we have to deal with now is "What happens if you don´t have the required amount of kredits when they buy order gets filled?" I´ve never tried this myself, but according to the official eve forums your order will be cancelled and you will lose the broker fee.

Trade Theory
Starting a career in trading is not as simple as running missions or mining, atleast not for me. There are a few important concepts you need to keep in mind when trading, this section will try to outline the basic "behind-the-keyboard" knowledge you will need to have.

;Return on Investment (ROI) : Essential how much money you will earn if a given business transaction goes thru. If you buy gods for 100 million isk, and sell them for a total of 110 million, you will have had a 10% return on investment. A trader usually works with percentages setting their price, so you should be able to calculate a your probable ROI as you go along.
;Return on Time (ROT) : How much isk do you get back on your investments over a set period of time? Calculate as ROI/[unit of time]. Naturally you will want this number to be as high as possible, as isk you have tied up in assets and goods is isk you can not reinvest.

When discussing ROI and ROT it might be good with the tried and true example of the little boy selling lemonade,

A little boy sits in a stand by the road selling lemonade, being the slick businessman he is he has priced is lemonade at a million dollars per glass. A man passing by asks if he expects to sell many glasses of lemonade at such a high price. The young boy looks up on and says "No, but I only need to sell one". Meanwhile the boy next door is raking in big bucks hand over fist selling his lemonade at a 10% mark-up.

Now the first boy will, if he ever sells a glass, have a very high ROI. But, the second boy working with a smaller ROI but a much higher ROT, making for more money in his pocket. Quality comes second to quantity in most cases in EVE trade.

What is EVE?
According to the official FAQ ;

EVE is a massive multiplayer online game (MMOG) set in a science-fiction based, persistent world. Players take the role of spaceship pilots seeking fame, fortune, and adventure in a huge, complex, exciting, and sometimes hostile galaxy.

What makes EVE different from other MMORPGs?
EVE is different from many other mmorpgs in structure and form. From the official Players Guide;

EVE Online is an open-ended Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMOG). Most other MMORPGs focus on a structured playing style with predictable outcomes and monotonous leveling. This seemingly innocent fact is why EVE is so different from almost all other MMORPGs, as the players have an incredible impact on how the game develops.

One could compare this to the difference between a playground, such as EVE, and a theme park, which would be the traditional MMOG. In a playground you have access to different kinds of toys and rides, and you are allowed to use your own imagination to figure out how to create games you enjoy. In a theme park all the rides have been created for you and are either good or bad by design. The playground clearly offers more freedom but it requires you to think and be an active participant, while the theme park has taken those responsibilities away from you and you can just go with the flow. As an interesting side-note, “theme park” style MMORPGs commonly develop lines, just like real world theme parks, as players wait for monster spawns, rare items, or quest requirements.

Players that enjoy the freedom and opportunities for creative thinking an open-ended game offers have become mesmerized by EVE, while others that depend on structured, repetitive game style have not. For this reason we don't contend that EVE is for everyone, but for those that enjoy a bit more of a challenge.

A unique aspect of EVE is that it is run on one server. In EVE you can find over 10,000 players at any given time interacting in the same persistent universe. Other MMORPGS are played on multiple servers called Shards; these have a limited number of players on each, usually between 500 and 3000.

The bottom line is that EVE is a rich and immersive universe centered on human interaction. Players can play the game as a simple space trader or endeavor to control the largest, most powerful company in the universe. We provide the rules and tools, but it is the players themselves who create the adventures.

How to get involved
If you think a career as a space pilot would be something for you, don´t hesitate to join your fellow Basiners in space. Just follow the following steps and you will soon be exploring "the final frontier".
;Step 1 : In order to start you will need a working copy of the game. EVE is not sold in stores so it has to be downloaded from http://www.eve-online.com. On the official site click the "Try Now" button and follow the instructions. If all goes well you should be able to activate a 14 day free trial.
; Step 2 : The next step is creating a your character. An EVE account has 3 character slots, but you can only use (and train skills on) one character at a time. Creating your character is a big and important step, while you can´t create a bad character you might want to check our guide to character creation to get some pointers
; Step 3 : When you have created your avatar you will automaticly start the ingame tutorial. It is highly recommended that you do the whole tutorial. EVE is quite a complicated game with a steep learning curve, and the tutorial can help a new pilot overcae he basic starting challenges. Upon finishing the tutorial you will also have gathered a small amount of isk, and a minor implant.
;Step 4 : Now would be a good time to read through the information on Basic Eve skills to get your skill training off on the right foot. If you're confused off the bat, you might want to investigate Your First 200 Hours in EVE.

Laughing God: A bit of formating

When training skills in EVE, the sheer number of options available can be overwhleming. In order to introduce new players to a few facets of the game, as well as the skill training mechanics, I've produced a very generic annotated skill plan.

The plan should run about 200 hours (about 8 days and change), leaving the new player in the second half of their free trial flying a cruiser, and free to experiment. Also note that, based on the skills recieved at character creation, some of the goals may already be achieved. Lastly, this skill plan is not meant to be optimized or ideal, but rather a broad introduction to the world.

General Skill Training Methodology
In the interest of space, the skill plan below will list off the desired level for a skill, i.e. "Afterburner III, Engineering III." Note that, because of the progressively-longer skill training times, it's typically best to stagger skill training. Thus, in the case above, the character is encouraged to train Afterburner I, Engineering I, Afterburner II, Engineering II, Afterburner III, and finally, Engineering III. This allows your character to improve at a more steady pace.

Starting Out: Let's Kill Stuff
The first order of business is to improve our ship and our combat skills.

; Racial Hybrid Turret III : Every race has its turret, and training it up to level III will help improve the damage output. You may also choose to train the Missile Launcher Operation and Rockets skills in addition or instead of turret skills.
; Engineering III and Electronics III : These skills make fitting modules onto ships much easier, and are important to get early.
; Repair Systems III or Shield Operation III :You'll take damage from enemies, and you'll need to repair that damage during combat, known as tanking. Repair Systems repairs the armor of your ship; Shield Operation repairs the shields.

Learning to Learn: Skill Training Faster
Every skill is tied to two attributes. These attributes directly affect how fast the skill trains. Naturally, you'd want to boost those attributes. And since buying +5 implants is out of the question, let's go train some learning skills.

; Instant Recall II
; Analytical Mind II : In an exception to the "staggering" advice I gave before, you'll want to train Instant Recall completely to Level 2, THEN train Analytical Mind to Level 2, then lastly train the remaining two skills in a staggered manner. Why? Because they affect the attributes that determine how long Learning skills take to train, so getting them to their top level ASAP is critical!
; Spatial Awareness II
; Iron Will II : Why not more? Because Learning skills aren't fun. And because there will be plenty of time to train them later on.

:Note that there are a LOT of characters with +9 attributes because of Learning and Advanced Learning skills. It's a long and boring journey. But millions of skill points later, I can't really complain.

Come See the Softer Side of EVE: Mining
All of those ships that the pirates and soldiers lose have to be replaced somehow. And there is NO NPC influence on the mineral market, so building materials have to be mined or bought. There's no shame in being a carebear. As a matter of fact, there can be a lot of ISK in it.

; Racial Frigate II : Every race has a "mining frigate" that requires the racial Frigate skill at Level 2. Look for the bonus to mining laser yield in the description, and you've found it.
;Mining III : Make your mining lasers work harder.
; Hull Upgrades I : As you drag ore in, you'll need a bigger cargohold. Hull Upgrades allows you to fit Expanded Cargohold modules.
; Refining III : Lastly, you'll want to be a bit more efficient at transforming your ore into minerals. Then again, you might get a better return on selling the raw ore, so do a little bit of market research and gasp math!

Versatility: Expanding Your Options
Now that we've got a bit of experience, we can start to broaden our horizon, and see how the "support" skills are as important as the prerequisite skills.

If you're interested in using guns in combat, train:
; Controlled Bursts II
; Rapid Firing II : Your guns will fire faster, and take less capacitor.

If you're interested in using missiles in combat, train:
; Missile Bombardment II
; Rapid Launch II : Your missiles will fire faster, and have a longer range.

If you're interested in drones, train:
; Drones II
; Scout Drone Operation II
; Combat Drone Operation II : You'll be able to control a pair of light or medium scout drones (if you have a ship with a drone bay), and their damage will be boosted slightly.

If you're interested in mining, train:
; Mining IV : Tech 2 Mining Lasers!
;Trade II
;Broker Relations II : Sell more of your ore and minerals on the market for a lower cost.

Bigger, Stronger, Slower: Cruisers
The last part of the plan is to get behind the wheel of a cruiser. You'll still be using frigate-sized guns (which isn't neccessarily bad), and cruisers can be expensive, but they'll allow you to fight harder enemies, carry more cargo, mine more ore (if you're Caldari or Matari), and see what bigger ships feel look like.
; Racial Frigate IV
; Racial Cruiser I : Once you have the ISK, either through mining, killing NPCs, or friendly donations, go find a cruiser to fly. Caldari and Matari get the Osprey and Scythe, repectively, which are outstanding mining cruisers. The other cruisers range from glorified cargo haulers (Exequor) to powerful combat ships (Maller). Do some shopping for the cruisers your race provides, train the Cruiser skill up a bit more if neccesary, and enjoy the second half of your trial period!

What is EVE?
According to the official FAQ ;

EVE is different from many other mmorpgs in structure and form. From the official Players Guide;

Upon finishing the tutorial you will also have gathered a small amount of isk, and a minor implant.
;Step 4 : Now would be a good time to read through the information on Basic Eve skills to get your skill training off on the right foot.
;Step 5 : The Basiners in EVE operate a chat channel. In order to get in touch with the rest of us click the "channels and mailing lists" button at the left side of your screen.
Anqara Industries (ANQ) is a corporation primarily focused on PvE and Industry in Empire space. The charter of Anqara Industries is as follows:
*To provide manufactured goods to members of Anqara Industries, any alliance in which Anqara Industries is a full member, or any corporation or alliance friendly to Anqara Industries on a near-cost basis.
*To provide efficient manufacturing resources to members of Anqara Industries, any alliance in which Anqara Industries is a full member, or any corporation friendly to Anqara Industries at little to no cost.
*To sell manufactured goods at a meaningful and reasonable profit to the corporation's financial interests.
*To reinvest working capital into resources, such as blueprint originals, manufacturing tools, and construction components with the intent of improving Anqara Industries products and services.
* To provide a safe heaven for Basiners wishing to learn the game
*To uphold high standards of play in general, that is, to play nice and show some class. Obviously, as in all cases, this comes down to the judgement of the members. We should never have to list what is unacceptable.

The membership of Anqara Industries includes a wide array of individuals. We have experienced mission runners, PEV manufacturers, miners, and more. Chances are good that someone in Anqara Industries shares the same interest as you, and can help.

<blockquote>Note: Much of the information contained in the EVE Online forum of the blueboards is outdated or incomplete.</blockquote>

Membership is open to all ABMs and CMs. Please visit one of the offices in order to place your application. Ask in the Basin channel for the nearest ANQ office.

Anqara Expeditions
Anqara Expeditions (ANQ-E) is a "detachment" of Anqara Industries, formed for the sole purpose of creating a lean, mobile, responsive unit for actions and opportunities within the 0.0 and PvP arena. Members of Anqara Expeditions will have a greater set of responsibility to corporate-wide operations and a higher corporate tax rate. In return, members will receive benefits, including access to low security space and free or discounted equipment.

Anqara Expeditions is currently searching for suitable 0.0 operating locations. Membership is open to all ABMs and CMs.

Corporate Store
Anqara Industries operates a corporate store, known as the Anqara Kasbah. The Kasbah sells equipment at rates based on current mineral valuations, with discounts available for Anqara members, allies, and friends. The Kasbah must be accessed through the IGB and is available at http://senorpez.com/kasbah.php

Version 2.0 of the Kasbah is currently in-development, but has been delayed due to scope creep and real-life lack of time. ISK donations won't speed it up, but they'll sure make Jai happier.

Communications and Security
At this time, for security purposes, Anqara Industries and Expeditions operate forums separate from the Basin forums. This is part of why much of the information on the Basin forums is outdated. Access to the forums is granted after a membership application is approved.

Anqara and Piracy
Both Anqara Industries and Anqara Expeditions are anti-pirate. In terms of EVE, this generally means that we don't shoot first in Empire space. In 0.0 space, NBSI policy typically applies, and attacks under that policy are not considered piracy.

Character Creation FAQs
Q: If I create a Gallente character, and later want to fly Caldari ships, do I have to create a new character?

A: No! One of the biggest differences in EVE from other MMORPGs is that your character doesn't have any sort of "class." Unlike, for example, Guild Wars, where a bow is most effectively used by a Ranger, any character, regardless of race or history, can effectively do anything. Instead, skills define how well you can use a piece of equipment.

As such, there is no game mechanic that prevents a Gallente pilot from training the skills to fly Caldari ships. A Gallente pilot with Caldari Frigate V is as effective at frigate piloting as a Caldari pilot with Caldari Frigate V.

Q: What is the maximum character level in EVE?

A:There is none. In eve you improve your character by training skills. The skills are trained in real time, and you can learn as many as you want. Once you learn a skill, or even just train a small part of the skill, your character will keep it forever (some exceptions apply). Thus in EVE many measure their relative experience in the number of accumulated skillpoints they have trained.

EVE is quite a complicated game with a steep learning curve, and the tutorial can help a new pilot overcae he basic starting challenges. ;Step 4 : The Basiners in EVE operate a chat channel. In order to get in touch with the rest of us click the "channels and mailing lists" button at the left side of your screen. ==What is EVE?==
According to the official FAQ ;

EVE is different from many other mmorpgs in structure and form. From the official Players Guide;

Creating your character is a big and important step, while you can´t create a bad character you might want to check our guide to character creation
; Step 3 : When you have created your avatar you will automaticly start the ingame tutorial. It is highly recommended that you do the whole tutorial.
