Magic Damage is the least common of the six damage types. As a result, resistance and immunity to it tends to be the least common as well. However, there is no way to reduce resistance when it is encountered, although immunity can be sundered and Holy Bolt's and Fist of the Heavens' magic damage will pierce that of hostile Undead (and Demons in D2R).
