Both are tools he uses to mete out justice. Just as righteousness can give his spirit the fortitude to overcome the attacks of the unjust, so too can faith be a weapon to strike back at those who work to defeat him. To this end, the Paladin has developed several combat techniques that use the shield not only for defense, but also as an offensive weapon. Smite always hits and cannot be blocked when used by a Paladin: it will always knock back an eligible target. Damage is calculated by summing the following before applying +% Damage to the total: Shield damage Holy Shield damage Damage + (although this is not displayed by the character screen) Sum of +% Damage from Smite and the following is then applied to that total: Strength (every point applies +1% Damage regardless of the weapon equipped) Might Concentration Fanaticism Heart of Wolverine Non-weapon Enhanced Damage (character screen displays this being applied to just 1 damage, when it's clearly added to all other +% Damage and applied to total damage) Even though shield damage is used, range adder, weapon speed and durability of weapon equipped are used. All modifiers are applied except for the following: Weapon base damage Weapon % Enhanced Damage + Minimum Damage + Maximum Damage +% Damage to Demons +% Damage to Undead Critical Strike Deadly Strike Magic Damage Fire Damage (Enchant may cause character screen damage to be displayed in red, but displayed damage does not increase and no fire damage is applied) [1] Lightning Damage Cold Damage and length Poison Damage and length % Life Stolen per hit % Mana Stolen per hit [2] Casting Life Tap allows life to be leeched while using Smite. If weapon reaches 0 durability while using Smite, it won't actually break and become unusable until another weapon attack is used. Weapon can be switched or removed and replaced without breaking it, and it will remain unbroken upon entering a new game. [3] Source Skill bonus +(1-3) Smite (Paladin Only) skill bonus cannot normally spawn on ilvl < 25 scepters.
